David Bates, Jr. creates video portraits of celebrities, artists and people, as well as on-the-scene and composed video works. He began shooting with video cams in the mid 90s, and has made over 500 videos. His work has been exhibited on 7 continents in public space and cultural centers, among his best known composed video works is Bjork & Ryoji Ikeda in Times Square.
Bates has attracted press for his range of work in arts, contemporary culture, and artistic spin in commercial projects. His work was discovered by the publication founded by Andy Warhol - Interview Magazine, who gave him the Award for Making People Talk - “his charmingly raw documentary-style shorts and off-the-cuff interviews with the likes of Christian Slater and Robert Wilson got the blogosphere – and the entertainment industry – buzzing.”
